Contemporary artists who are engaging ecology in their choices of theme, practice, medium, and display are featured in Avant-Guardians, a series of textlets written by Linda Weintraub with Skip Schuckmann. This timely arena of contemporary art practice reflects the widespread proliferation of ecologies across disciplines. Like social ecology, political ecology and industrial ecology, art ecology locates environmental considerations at the fulcrum of its pedagogy, practice, and discourse. Each textlet is thematically distinct and features the work of eight to twelve contemporary artists. The series demonstrates art's crucial role in attending to the well-being of the planet. At the same time it identifies numerous prospects at the eco-art frontier that are awaiting exploration. For this reason readers are invited to activate the environmental principles and dilemmas articulated by the text.
The textlets are available in two formats:
• Print-on-demand, soft cover, black-and-white illustrations.
• PDF files
